Patients' Experiences in CAHs: HCAHPS Results, 2017 (FMT Data Summary Report #27)

Abstract

This report summarizes reporting rates and performance among all U.S. Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey for calendar year 2017.

The Flex Monitoring Team also produces state-specific CAH reports with more detailed HCAHPS results.

In 2017, the percentage of reporting CAHs with fewer than 100 surveys increased to 59.9% and the percentage with more than 300 surveys decreased to 5.4%. More than 14% of CAHs reported fewer than 25 surveys. Results include the wide variation in the number of completed HCAHPS surveys per CAH when compared to the annual volume of inpatient admissions. The report also includes tables ranking states by HCAHPS participation rates.
