Current Project

Over the past decade, obstetric unit closures have left roughly half of rural counties without a hospital offering obstetrics services. These closures have forced individuals to travel long distances for care and resulted in increasing out-of-hospital births and births in hospitals without obstetric units. The objective of this project is to support a continued focus on quality and access to maternity care in Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) by conducting a scoping review of literature to describe effective interventions to train rural health personnel and maintain competency to provide emergency obstetric services in their communities.
