How to use the chart
The chart is highly customizable. The default view plots state median cash flow margin (y-axis) against state median total margin (x-axis). The size of the "bubble" is proprotional to the number of CAHs used in creating the median.
Actions you may take:
- Click the play button to see how the medians vary over time.
- Click the "cash flow margin" and/or "total margin" boxes by the axes to change the variable to another of the indicators.
- Click the "size" button to change the size of the bubbles -- eg make them all the same size, or make the size proportional to another variable (e.g. Acute Average Daily Census).
- Click either of the "Lin" (short for "linear") buttons to change the scale to logarithmic format (useful for indicators with skewed values).
- Click the color box to have the colors driven by another variable.
- Drag the button on the timescale to see a particular year.
- Click the trails button to see how a value changes over time.
- Hover and/or click on a bubble to track one state.
- Click on the bar graph picture to change the graph to a bar graph. (Many of the options above apply to that graph as well.)
